Sylvester Named Big Sky Athlete of the Week After Record-Breaking Performance

FARMINGTON, Utah - The fourth edition of the 2024 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week have been announced. Mia Sylvester, following her record-breaking weight throw performance at the Inland Northwest Invitational, is the Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Sylvester is the second consecutive Idaho woman to earn Field Athlete of the Week honors.

The sophomore broke a 21-year Idaho record and secured her second gold medal of the year on Saturday at The Podium in Spokane, Washington. In her second attempt, Sylvester hit 18.77m, besting Aloha Santiago's 18.66m record from 2003. Sylvester, of Belmopan, Belize, now holds the best mark in the Big Sky in 2023-24.

The reigning Big Sky Freshman of the Year continues to soar with her second title in 2024. Sylvester found her first gold medal at the 2024 Spokane Sports Showcase in the women's shot put throwing 15.27m, the third farthest in the conference this year.
