SACRAMENTO – The Vandals dropped a road match in straight sets at Sacramento State, 13-25, 18-25, 14-25, on Thursday night at the Nest.
Taylor Brickey had 10 kills and three digs to lead Idaho.
Miya Carmichael recorded 21 assists and four digs in the effort.
Sac State won the first set, 25-13. Idaho posted seven kills, three errors and hit .138 in the set. The Vandals raced out to a 3-0 lead and kept it tied at 6-6 to open play but Sac State used a 6-0 run and a 5-0 spurt to earn a 1-0 lead.
Idaho fell in the second set, 25-18. It was another strong start by the Vandals in the second, earning an 8-4 advantage highlighted by two kills each from Brickey and
Lauryn Arnold. The Hornets stormed back to take a 10-9 lead before Idaho responded with five straight points to make it 14-10 Idaho. Eventually, Sac State went up 15-14 and used an 8-0 run to put the set out of reach.
Sac State completed the sweep with a 25-14 win in the third. The Hornets continued to find effectiveness on the block and the attack with four denials and a .355 hitting percentage. The Vandals kept it to a two-point deficit (10-12) midway through the frame but a 5-0 Hornet surge and 8-0 run to end the match secured the win.
The Vandals return to Memorial Gym for their final two home games of the year welcoming Montana State (Nov. 7) and Montana (Nov. 9) for Senior Day.
