Idaho Soccer Visits Eastern Washington for Sunday Matinee

The Vandals carry a three-game win-streak into meeting with the Eagles

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho soccer team will travel to Cheney, Washington on Sunday, October 6 to take on the Eastern Washington Eagles. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. PST.

WEEKLY HONORS
Two Idaho soccer players were recognized by the Big Sky this week for their outstanding performance and contributions to the Vandal's 2-0 start to conference play. Hannah Alfaro-Black received her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor after contributing two of Idaho's five goals scored on the week. After one goal and two assists, Alyssa Peters earned her second Big Sky honors as Defensive Player of the Week and landed a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week.

ABOUT IDAHO
Idaho soccer enters the weekend in first place in the Big Sky after their first weekend of conference play. The Vandals put up a clean sweep over Sacramento State (2-0) and Portland State (3-0). The Vandal's overall record improved to 8-3-1 and 2-0 in conference. 

The Vandals secured a victory against Sacramento State in their Big Sky home debut at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome, with goals scored by Alyssa Peters and Hannah Alfaro-Black. Peters scored the first goal early in the 7th minute after a handball was committed by Sac State, which granted her a free kick. Idaho's second goal came from an error by the Hornets, who committed a handball in the box. Alfaro-Black capitalized on the penalty kick and struck the ball past the Sac State keeper.

On Sunday, Idaho got their second Big Sky win over Portland State (3-0) with goals made by Sara Rodgers, KV Miller, and Alfaro-Black. In the 32nd minute, Alfaro-Black earned her fourth goal of the season and third goal in three games thanks to a lobbed pass from the midfield by Cassidy Elicker. In the 65th minute, Rodgers secured Idaho's second goal of the game assisted by Alyssa Peters, who surpassed the record for most assists in program history (23). The third and final goal was scored by Miller, assisted by Peters again. She took advantage of another set-piece opportunity, directing a pass in the box to Miller who made contact with her head and secured the 3-0 win. 

CONFERENCE RANKINGS
Five Vandals are filtered throughout the top 5 in a handful of Big Sky statistical categories. After registering four assists in four games, Alyssa Peters has secured the top spot in assists with five. Teammate Kate Sprink follows behind with three to sit in a tie for second. The Vandals' top goal scorers lie in Margo Schoesler and Hannah Alfaro-Black, who rank second (5) and fourth (4), respectively. Schoesler is also rated second in goals per game (0.42) and fourth in points (10). Goalkeeper Paula Flores has been everything and more for Idaho's defense in her first year of competition, tying for the most shutouts in the Big Sky with five and ranking second with 53 saves on a 4.4 clip per game. 

ABOUT EASTERN WASHINGTON
Eastern Washington concluded their first week of conference play with 1-1 tie against Portland State and a 3-0 win over Sacramento State. The Eagles overall record sits at 6-4-2 and 1-0-1 in Big Sky action. After the first week of conference play, they sit in second place in the Big Sky standings. 

SERIES HISTORY
The competition between Idaho and Eastern dates back to 1998 as the Eagles lead with a 12-13-1 overall mark. Idaho currently holds a three-game win streak and are winners of two straight on the road. The last time these two teams faced off, it ended in a 2-1 win in favor of Idaho (10/15/23) with goals from Annika Farley and Maddy Lasher
