CHENEY, Wash – The Idaho soccer team battled Eastern Washington to a 2-2 tie at the EWU Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon after the Vandals came from behind to tie on
Annika Farley and
KV Miller's back-to-back goals.
Idaho held possession for a strong portion of the opening half and presented multiple opportunities to strike first early on. The first 15 minutes saw Idaho awarded three corner kicks with four shots that were to no avail. The Vandals pressed on outshooting their opposition 11-4 with six on goal before heading into halftime all tied at 0-0.
Out of the break, EWU's best scoring opportunity came in the 47th minute, but it was denied by an impressive one-handed save from
Paula Flores, keeping the game scoreless. After Flores secured her fourth save in the 56th minute, the Eagles would strike first with a goal in the 57th off the foot of Chloe Pattison. In a blink of an eye, it was 2-0 Eastern Washington after Kendall Moore found the back of the net in the 58th minute.
With over 30 minutes remaining, Idaho didn't go away and applied the pressure.
Cassidy Elicker carried the ball from midfield into the attacking third, where
Hannah Alfaro-Black headed it into the box, creating a scoring opportunity for Idaho.
Sienna Gonzales fought off an EWU defender and forced the ball to Farley where she took care of the rest and floated a shot into the left corner to make it 2-1.
In a similar fashion to EWU, Idaho scored in the very next minute to even the score at 2-2.
Alyssa Peters earned a try at a corner kick and delivered like she has her whole career, sending one into the box to connect on a header from Miller for the third time this season. The assist marks No. 25 for Peters and places her in a tie for second all-time in Big Sky history (27, Chansi Crompton).
Idaho had a chance at victory in the 84th minute on a corner try from Peters. She placed the ball in the box for Miller again but went off the post and EWU would receive a goal kick. The final whistle sounded and the game resulted in a 2-2 draw.
Idaho moves to 8-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the Big Sky, containing first place in the league with seven points.
