Vandal Volleyball Travels to Face Montana Schools

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal Volleyball team (1-13, 0-3 BSC) continues Big Sky play this week with a road trip to face Montana (5-10, 0-4 BSC) and Montana State (5-10, 3-1 BSC). Idaho starts the week with a Thursday, Oct. 10 matchup against the Grizzlies before rounding out the weekend with a Saturday, Oct. 12 clash against the Bobcats. 

Match play against the Griz gets underway at 6 p.m. PT, while Saturday's meeting with the Bobcats begins at Noon PT. Both matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

ABOUT IDAHO 
  • The Vandals are coming off their third Big Sky loss in as many matches, following a three-set loss to Eastern Washington. Madu Fontes led the team in kills with seven, while Miya Carmichael led Idaho defensively with six digs. Carmichael and Natalia Wieglus each added 10 assists to help set up the attack. 
  • Fontes continues to deliver some of the Big Sky's most potent service, averaging 0.41 aces per set, which ranks third best in the conference. Her 12 aces on the year lead the Vandals - a lead she extended after tying her season-high of three against EWU.  
  • Lauryn Arnold leads Idaho in blocks through three conference matches, totaling seven, adding two to her total versus EWU. Ada Isik is at the front of the pack in digs, with 20 in Big Sky play and 99 on the season. 

SCOUTING MONTANA 
  • The Grizzlies come into Thursday's match with a 5-10 overall record and a 0-4 mark against Big Sky teams. Montana has lost five in a row, with their last win on September 20 against Kansas City. 
  • UM is led by senior Paige Clark, who has totaled the fifth most kills in the conference with 204. Cassie Newman leads the team in assists with 427 on an 8.06 per set average to place top-5 in the Big Sky.
  • Alexis Batezel tops the team with 218 digs, while Brenley Hansen leads the squad with 63 blocks. 

SCOUTING MONTANA STATE 
  • The Bobcats have jumped out to a 3-1 conference record through the first two weekends of Big Sky play, with an overall record of 5-10. MSU has won three in a row heading into the third week of conference action.  
  • Montana State is led in kills by Jourdain Kamps, tallying 157 through 15 matches. In the back row, Lauren Lindseth leads the team with 254 digs to rank second-best in the Big Sky.  
  • The Bobcats swept Big Sky Player of the Week this week, following a 2-0 weekend. Kamps earned the Offensive honor after a 26-kill match against Weber State on Saturday, while Jordan Radik took home the Defensive honor after averaging 1.70 blocks per set on the weekend.   

UP NEXT  
Idaho will return home to Memorial Gym for a four-game homestand starting with Weber State on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Idaho State on Saturday, Oct. 19.
