MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Idaho Swim and Dive team travels to Flagstaff this weekend to take on the WAC defending champion Northern Arizona Lumberjacks on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m. PT.
LAST TIME OUT
The Vandals are coming off a 167.5-132.5 victory against conference foe Northern Colorado to move to 2-0 this season. Idaho delivered 10 first-place finishes, while 16 other Vandals placed in the top three.
Sophomore Ginger Kiefer tallied a team-high three first-place victories on the day. Kiefer dominated in the 1000-yard freestyle, taking first at 10:26.73. She followed it up with a top finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.64) and 200-yard IM (2:04.35). The Bend, Oregon's effort helped her achieve WAC Swimmer of the Week recognition.
Idaho's 200-yard medley relay team of Katy Foley, Rylie Moxham, Grace Ruble, and Ella Haskins finished first with a time of 1:45.94.
Freshman Courtney Crawford posted her second win of the season, coming in first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.07). She also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.97) and 200-yard IM (2:09.99), while Holly Lenarz posted a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle.
Idaho went 1-2-3 in the 50-yard freestyle with Madelynn Butler hitting the wall first, clocking in a time of 24.38 followed by Haskins (24.48) and Isabelle Borke (24.60). Borke also posted a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.55).
MPSF OPEN WATER CHAMPIONSHIPS
Idaho took seven swimmers to Long Beach, California to compete in the MPSF Open Water Championships on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Ginger Kiefer took first place out of 45 contestants in the Women's 5k Open Water Swim, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:05.36.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ARIZONA
The reigning 2023-24 WAC Champions compete in their first dual meet of 2024 after earning their 11th consecutive conference title a season ago. The Lumberjacks scored 841.5 points to lead to its conference crown. The Lumberjacks took home four gold medals and one bronze.
With NAU's conference success, six divers qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones last season.
IN THE WAC
The Vandals have 18 swimmers and two divers in the top 10 WAC standings. Six out of the 18 swimmers rank in the top five spots in the WAC in their respective events.
Ginger Kiefer ranks top five in three events, including first in the 200 IM (2:04.35), second in the 200 back (2:01.64) and fourth in the 500 free (5:01.90). Sophomore Katy Foley ranks fourth in the 200 back with a time of 2:05.04.
Junior Grace Ruble holds the third spot in the 100 fly (56.55) while graduate transfer Silvana Cabrera ranks fourth in the 100 fly (56.79).
UP NEXT
Idaho will return home next weekend to host Seattle University. The meet will take place Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m. PT in the UI Swim Center.
