Vandals Win Home Opener 76-51

MOSCOW, Idaho – Four Vandals scored in double figures and Jennifer Aadland scored the first double-double of her Vandal career to lead Idaho women's basketball to a 76-51 win over Walla Walla, the first career victory for head coach Arthur Moreira.
 
The Vandals started slow, but a three-pointer by Hope Hassmann put Idaho up 20-17 and the Vandals would never trail again.
 
Idaho built a 31-point lead in the middle of the fourth quarter before allowing the Wolves to cut the final margin to 25 in the final seconds.
 
Rosie Schweizer led Idaho with 14 points, her second consecutive outing as the leading scorer. Hassmann ended with 13 points on 4-4 shooting, she added nine rebounds and four assists.
 
Ana Beatriz Passos hit double figures for the first time in her career with 11 points on 5-7 shooting. The best overall game came from Aadland who tallied 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks in the game.
 
The Vandals were 29-63 (46%) from the field, but also had a perfect night (12-12) from the free throw line after struggling at times in the first two games of the season. The Vandals held the Wolves to 18-62 (29%) from the field, including
 
The win was the first milestones of many for Moreira whose team battled hard at a pair of tough opponents to open the season before picking up his first Vandal win at home.
 
Idaho is now 1-2 on the year and now heads on the road for three games, beginning at November 16 at 1 p.m. at Southern Utah.
