CHENEY, Wash. – Idaho fell in three sets to Eastern Washington on Friday night at Reece Court.
The Eagles sprinted out of the gates, jumping to a seven-point advantage before the Vandals responded. Eastern Washington hit .700 with six aces, a mark Idaho struggled to match. EWU scored six straight to ice the set, taking it 25-4.
The second began with a strong
Zuzanna Wieczorek kill, followed by a five-point Eagle run. After falling behind 5-1, the Vandals crawled back within two thanks to a block from junior
Julia Dickeson. Eastern responded with an 8-1 run before a Vandal timeout and never looked back, winning 25-11.
The third set was a fight, with Idaho posting a match-high 15 kills and pressuring the Eagles into four attack errors. Following an EWU ace to make it 9-4, the Vandals scored four of the next five to get the deficit back to two, with big kills from
Taylor Brickey and
Madu Fontes. From this point on Idaho would be down no more than five, going on two separate three-point runs to cut the Eagle advantage to two. A kill by Brickey, her ninth of the match, made the score 22-20. Eastern Washington scored three straight to finish the match, winning the final set 25-20.
Idaho will close out the season with two matches next weekend; a clash at Northern Colorado on Nov. 21, and a matchup at Northern Arizona on Nov. 23.
