MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho (6-2) led for over 37 minutes in a dominant victory at Memorial Gym Saturday, defeating St. Thomas (6-4) 76-54.
The Vandals took their first lead of the afternoon on a three from
Anja Bukvic, before the Tommies responded tying the game at five. Two free throws from
Hope Hassmann gave Idaho a 7-5 advantage, one they would hold from the 6:30 mark in the first to the final buzzer. UI closed the first period on a 15-9 run stretching their lead to eight.
The second was more of the same, as St. Thomas went cold, shooting just 2-17, and Idaho built up a 25-point mountain heading into the locker room. The 21-4 quarter was powered by
Olivia Nelson, who scored 10 in the period, was perfect from the field, and grabbed her first block of the year. The Kansas City, Missouri native would finish the game with 12 points, her fourth double-figure effort this season.
The Tommies outscored Idaho in the second half, 33-36, but the damage had been done by the Vandals in the opening 20 minutes.
Rosie Schweizer led Idaho in scoring for the fourth time in 2024, with 21 points on a 69.2% clip. Idaho's scoring leader has now eclipsed 20 points three times this season.
Hassmann scored in double-figures for the sixth time this season, putting up 15 along with four assists in a team-high 32 minutes.
Jennifer Aadland continued to be a threat inside, as she added 12 rebounds to her Big Sky leading total, as well as a season-high three blocks and four steals.
The Vandals secured their sixth straight win, their longest winning streak since the 2021-22 season. A seventh win would make the streak the longest since the close of Idaho's 2019-20 campaign.
Next on the Vandals' calendar is a matchup with Utah State on Sunday Dec. 15. The game is part of a doubleheader with the women's game tipping off at 1 p.m. and the men's game against UC San Diego scheduled for 4 p.m.
