MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho women's tennis won its home opener against Utah State, 4-3, at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome on Saturday afternoon.
Idaho improves to 5-3 on the season while Utah State drops to 3-4. The Vandals moved to 17-4 overall against the Aggies since 1994-95.
The Vandals started the dual off strong in doubles play with a pair of victories to clinch the doubles point and take an opening 1-0 lead.
Valentina Rodas and
Naomi Schraeder teamed up for a quick 6-2 win over Utah State's No. 1 pair.
Lena Beckx and
Rachelle Starreveld continued their dominance at No. 3, earning a 6-3 win to move to 6-1 overall on the season.
Idaho won three out of the six matches in singles to secure the 4-3 victory.
Utah State evened the score at 1-1 after earning a singles win at No. 3. Rodas won by retirement on court two to help retake the lead for Idaho. She won the first set by way of a 7-3 tiebreak before her opponent ended the match down 4-1 in the second due to injury.
Diana Khaydarshina continued Idaho's success with a straight-set victory at the No. 4 position. She won over Ana Sanchez, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) to increase the lead to 3-1.
Idaho fell on court one before earning the clinch at No. 6. Johansson posted a dominant 6-2, 6-1 result over Magdalena Nunez Pureco to guarantee the victory.

Idaho is set to hit the road once again next weekend before returning to Moscow for a four-match home stretch. The Vandals will travel west to square off against Seattle University on Sunday, March 3 at 9 a.m. PST.
