Big Sky Conference Names Herrmann and Sylvester Athletes of the Week

FARMINGTON, Utah - The Big Sky Conference has released its Week Five Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Two Vandals were honored following their performances at the Riverfront Invitational and Multis at The Podium in Spokane, Washington.

Mia Sylvester has earned back-to-back women's field athlete of the week honors after breaking Idaho's weight throw record in consecutive weeks. Sylvester, of Belmopan, Belize, took first at the Riverfront Invitational throwing 20.03m in the women's weight throw on Friday. The sophomore broke a 21-year Vandal record the week before at the Inland Northwest Invitational recording a 18.77m mark. A week later, every attempt from Sylvester passed at least 19m. Sylvester holds the Big Sky's best mark this year and ranks 41st in the nation.

Lorenz Herrmann was named the Big Sky Men's Track Athlete of the Week following his first-place finish in the men's 800m. The senior from Landau, Germany ran a Big Sky-best, 1:48.71 to capture his third 800m title this year, just over a second shy of the school record held by himself from 2023 (1:47.39). Herrmann holds the 36th fastest mark in the nation in 2023-24.

Sylvester is the third Idaho woman in three consecutive weeks to be named field athlete of the week this year. Herrmann is the first Idaho male to earn weekly indoor track and field honors in 2023-24.
