Idaho Track and Field Signs Elite Montanan Thrower

MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho Track and Field welcomes its next signee for 2024 in top Montana thrower, Tesse Kamps. Kamps is a four-time medal winner at the Montana State Championships with 36 first-place finishes in three years.

Kamps will join the Vandals with four years of winning experience at Gallatin High School in Bozeman, Montana. As a junior in 2023, Kamps took first in the shot put in 10 of the Raptors' 11 meets only finishing second at the Montana Class AA State Meet. Her personal best came at the 2023 Midland Roundtable Top 10 throwing 41' 6". 

Kamps also earned seven gold medals throwing discus in 2023. Her personal record of 125' 5" came in a second-place finish at the Montana State Meet.

As a sophomore, she secured six shot put wins with a runner-up finish at the 2022 Montana Class AA State Meet at a 38' 6" mark.

Kamps' 2021 season saw the freshman capture 11 first-place finishes across both shot put and discus. She took second at the Montana Class AA State Meet throwing 38' 0.5". Kamps competed at the 2021 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships where she finished 23rd in her age group.

"The University of Idaho felt like home to me. The teammates were very nice and welcoming," said Kamps. "I just felt like I belonged."

Kamps plans to study Art in the College of Art and Architecture when she joins the Vandals this fall.
