MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho's student-athletes,
Jenna Bruggeman and
Alex Asenov, have been named the Vandal Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month supported by P1FCU.
Bruggeman represents Edmonton, Alberta, Canada as a junior on the women's golf team. She is pursuing a degree in architecture and maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA.
"Jenna is one of the most hard-working individuals I have ever met," said
Stephanie Young. "She strives daily for excellence in the classroom and on the golf course. I am thrilled for her to receive this award."
Bruggeman has demonstrated a strong work ethic both on the golf course and in the classroom over the last three years. "Both architecture and golf require large amounts of time, and I am equally passionate about succeeding in both," she explained. "I have made sacrifices in other parts of my life to make this happen. However, I wouldn't change it for the world. The time management skills I have learned will undoubtedly benefit the trajectory of my life and career."
She attributes her early success to the support she received from the academic center that equipped her with the tools she needed to excel. "I think the focused study hall environment in my early college career definitely helped prepare me for the rigors of the studio,' said Bruggeman. "Another thing I appreciate about the academic center is the level of support they provide. Having a support system to check in on you is a gift that is often underappreciated. Anytime I have questions be it about school or scheduling, there are people there to help."
Asenov is a senior on the men's tennis team hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He holds a leadership position on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee while studying marketing.
"Alex finds time to manage academics, tennis, and he is also a member of SAAC," stated Stacey Hyde. "He is a well-rounded student-athlete and a pleasure to work with."
Asenov feels that being a student-athlete has greatly enhanced his experience as a Vandal. "Being a student-athlete has given me a sense of community since the very beginning of my freshman year and has helped me meet so many great people who live a similar life as me," explained Asenov. "I value all the relationships I have made in my time here and I have learned so much from my peers. Having people around you with similar goals and lifestyle really makes the student-athlete experience unique in the best way possible and it creates such a fun environment to play your sport while also being a successful student."
As a leader in SAAC, Asenov believes the skills he's gained will translate into other areas of his life. "To be the voice of your team requires keeping up with every single person on the team and constantly learning how to improve everyone's experience," he stated. "This has given me a much larger perspective that is more than just myself or the ones closest to me and I think that is an extremely valuable skill that will help carry me through whatever careers I might pursue in the future."
