Vandal Hoops Sign Local Standout Kolton Mitchell

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball head coach Alex Pribble announced on Wednesday that local standout Kolton Mitchell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Idaho next season.

A true freshman this past year at Idaho State, Mitchell averaged 7.3 points, 2.1 assists, and shot 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from three over 10 games for the Bengals. He delivered a breakout game in a matchup against Campbell (11/21/23), posting a season-high 18 points, five rebounds and three assists in a 69-55 win.

A few weeks later, Mitchell's season would be cut short due to a finger injury. He received a medical redshirt and has four years of eligibility remaining.

"We're very excited about the addition of Kolton. He's a true winner, a true competitor. He brings an elite skill set and a toughness that is going to make our program better from the minute he steps on campus."

Mitchell is a 6-foot-1 guard who put together a storied career at Lake City High School in Coeur d'Alene. He was a three-time all-state recipient, including being named 5A First Team All-State twice and Inland Empire League MVP in 2023. Mitchell led the 'Wolves to a perfect 26-0 record, a top 25 national ranking and a state championship title in 2023.

"Having a local star like Kolton wearing the Idaho uniform is important. He's truly invested in bringing Idaho back to the top of the Big Sky Conference."

He closed out his senior campaign as the all-time leading scorer at Lake City with 1,614 points. Mitchell went on to average 18 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.8 steals per game during his prep career.

During his senior season, he set a Lake City single-game scoring record with 39 points against defending 5A state champions, Owyhee.

As a junior, Mitchell averaged 17.5 points and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 37 percent from behind the arc. He previously tied the school record with a 38-point outing in that season.

Mitchell chose Idaho over offers from Chattanooga, Eastern Washington, Furman and UC Davis.
