MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho student-athletes put together a record-breaking semester in the classroom this spring, setting the all-time departmental grade point average record for a regular semester with a 3.49. It marked the 21st-consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher overall GPA.
The Vandals had 103 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0, 270 student-athletes above a 3.0 and all 14 varsity sports post a 3.10 or better. A total of 11 UI programs earned a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Idaho women's cross country delivered a department-best 3.78 team GPA to lead all programs, while four other teams posted record-setting semester marks. Swimming and diving recorded a program-record 3.77 GPA while men's cross country held the highest spring GPA for men's teams with a 3.69.
A trio of men's programs set program-best spring GPA marks in the classroom this past semester. The men's golf team delivered their best GPA in back-to-back semesters with a 3.68, while men's track and field posted a 3.62 and football tallied a 3.31.
Women's tennis and women's golf were two of the seven teams to record at least a 3.60 GPA, as tennis posted a 3.63 and golf earned a 3.62.
"Our student-athletes continue to create history by consistently setting new records semester after semester, showcasing our outstanding academic standing." Director of Athletics Terry Gawlik said. "It's evident that our student-athletes recognize the significance of organizing their schedules to balance all the challenges throughout an academic school year. We are immensely proud of our Vandal student-athletes. I must express my profound gratitude for the time, effort, and support that our Academic Support Services staff dedicate to each and every student-athlete."
