FARMINGTON, Utah – The Big Sky Conference announced
Margo Schoesler as the women's soccer Offensive Player of the Week following Idaho's 1-1 performance last weekend on the road.
Schoesler recorded two goals on the weekend and is currently tied for first in points this season for Idaho. She moved up to 10
th all-time at Idaho with 12 career goals and is close to breaking the top 10 in career points with 32. This is the second time in Schoesler's career earning the POTW honor, the first on October 4
th, 2022.
Schoesler's first goal of the season came in the 30
th minute at Cal State University Northridge on Thursday, August 22
nd. The scoring drive started with
Hannah Alfaro-Black in the midfield as she dished a diagonal ball out to
Kyla Tucker on the right-hand side. Tucker gathered the ball and sent in a low cross into the 18-yard box. With a fortunate deflection, the ball landed in front of Schoesler who had a very comfortable amount of time to step up and place the shot into the far right side of the net. The assist from Tucker marked the first of her career.
Schoesler's second goal of the weekend was a screamer at Washington State. The goal stood as the equalizer until the Cougars responded in the 70
th minute. The Vandals attacked the right flank with the ball at
Annika Farley's feet. Farley sent a cross to the far side of the field where a Washington State defender failed to clear the ball with their head. Schoesler was in the right place at the right time as she was able to turn into space with the ball, get her head up, and blast her shot to the far corner of the net. The goal marked Schoesler's second goal of the season and her second straight game with a score.
This marks the first Big Sky Conference honor for Idaho soccer this season. The Vandals will be in action on Thursday at 7 pm hosting IU Indianapolis.
