LARAMIE, Wyoming - The No. 7 Idaho Vandal defense allowed just 270 yards of offense and only one touchdown while sacking the Wyoming quarterback five times and forcing a turnover to hold off Wyoming and win 17-13 Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. 
 
The win was the second win over a Mountain West team in as many seasons, the first over Wyoming since 1921 and first win in Laramie ever. 
 
Keyshawn James-Newby racked up a career-high three sacks on the day and a second strip sack in as many weeks. The defense allowed just 16 first downs on the day and held Evan Svoboda to just 10-24 for 126 yards. 
 
The Vandal offense did enough to get the win. Idaho scored on a three-yard Elisha Cummings run in the first quarter and regained a 14-10 lead in the second quarter on a two-yard touchdown throw from Jack Wagner to Jake Cox. 
 
Cameron Pope added a 49-yard field goal with 4:40 left in the first half to put Idaho up 14-10. 
 
Wyoming drove to the Idaho six inch line late in the third quarter, but a penalty and a tough defensive stand forced Wyoming to kick a field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter. 
 
Both defenses would hold for the remainder of the game. 
 
The Vandals move to 1-1 on the year and the win puts the Vandals in good position for another playoff berth. 
 
The win was the 10th all-time over and FBS/I-A team as an FCS/I-AA Idaho team.

• Wyoming's First Sellout since 2011 against Nebraska.
• Back-to-back sellout opponents for Idaho to start the season. 

• Cummings first touchdown since Oct. 29, 2022 against Sacramento State after redshirting last year. 
• Wagner's touchdown pass is the second of his career. His first was against Idaho State in 2023. 
• Pope's 49-yard field goal was the first attempt and first make of his career. 
• Idaho has now led, or was tied, in 5 of 6 Games against FBS opponents since Jason Eck became head coach in 2022. The lone exception was No. 3 Oregon last week. 
• Idaho surpassed last week's rush total in the first half. 
• Neither Oregon or Wyoming scored a point against the Vandals in the third quarter. 
• Keyshawn James-Newby has five sacks in two games, matching his total for the entire 2023 season.
