MOSCOW, Idaho - The Vandals came out victorious on Thursday, defeating Sacramento State 2-0 on the road.
From the kick-off, the Vandals and the Hornets competed closely, with Idaho getting off four shots and Sacramento State posting five. Vandal goalkeeper
Paula Flores defended the team with two saves in the first half to keep the Hornets at bay. Neither offense was able to finish, resulting in a 0-0 score moving into the second half.
Continuing off the momentum built before the break, Idaho got to work building up offensive control. Six minutes in, the Vandals broke the silence when
Georgia Whitehead found a pocket in the right corner following an assist from forward counterpart
Calli Chiarelli. The goal gave Idaho the first edge of the game, leaving Sacramento behind.
The Hornets attempted to counter by posting two shots over the next seven minutes, but were unable to succeed. Instead, the Vandals broke out of the defensive third, bringing the ball to the other side of the field and creating an opportunity for themselves. Assisted by
Bella Gissendanner, Whitehead once again found the opportunity to put a shot on target, finding the top of the net and lengthening her team's lead to 2-0.
The Vandal defense continued to hold back the Hornets for the remainder of the half, resulting in a 2-0 win for Idaho.
