Women Fifth, Men Sixth at Big Sky Championship

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Jesse Redding led the Idaho women for the second time in 2025, this time to a fifth place finish, as Miles Ferguson and the Vandal men took sixth at the 2025 Big Sky Championship.

HEAR FROM THE TEAM
"We were coming in ranked fifth with the women and sixth with the men, and that's where we finished," Director of Track and Field Tracy Hellman said post-race. "We finished where we were ranked, so anytime you can do that, I think you had a decent day. Obviously, we want to continue to get better as a program, and we will. This was a meet where we had a lot of young kids get a lot of good experience. It was a good starting point. We are going to get better, and Vandal cross country is on the rise."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Right out of the gate, the UI women grabbed fifth place and would not let go, remaining in that spot for all five kilometers. The sophomore duo of Redding and Alex Terry were the first two Vandals across the line, with Redding running a 17:15.7 in 14th and Terry just over two seconds behind in 15th. Spokane CC transfer Mary Nakamura continued her strong first year in Moscow, as the junior claimed 33rd in 17:53.3. Abigail Thomas and Pia Kircher closed the scoring for the Vandals, with Thomas in 41st at 18:08.2 and Kircher two and a half seconds back in 44th. Fifth marks Idaho's best finish at the Big Sky meet since 2023.

The Vandal men fell from fifth to sixth after the first mile and would remain there for the rest of the race. In his final fall Big Sky meet, Miles Ferguson continued to carry the banner for Idaho in 26th place, leading his next closest teammate by over 20 seconds. Kristian Borve and Ralston Graves helped the Black and Gold hold onto sixth by claiming 34th and 36th, respectively. Both crossed the line in front of the top runner for the seventh-place team, Eastern Washington. Sophomore James Hodgson took 46th in his first Big Sky Championship, followed by Zac Knapp in 49th.
