MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho Vandal Women's Hoops (2-1) is back at the ICCU Arena, hosting the Southern Utah Thunderbirds (3-0) for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
Tipoff is set for Saturday at 2 p.m., with coverage available from Trevor Williams and Stephen Madison on the call for ESPN+.
After a thrilling start to the season, including a historic comeback to beat Washington State for the first time in 22 years and a record-setting home opener against Walla Walla, the Vandals are seeking their second win at home in as many games. Idaho's success has been filled with career-high games for Kyra Gardner, who racked up 26 points against Washington State, and Ana Pinheiro, who has set a career high in points in back-to-back games with 16 and 17 points, respectively. Pinheiro also set new personal bests in rebounds (11, at UC Davis), assists (6, at UC Davis), and steals (3, at Washington State). With her unbelievable start to the season, the Portuguese international player also tallied the first double-double of her career.
Big Sky player of the week, Gardner, and WAC player of the week, Southern Utah's Brooklyn Fely, face-off in what is bound to be an intense matchup in Moscow.
Saturday's game marks the 27th meeting between Idaho and Southern Utah since 1990, with the Vandals looking to extend their current three-game win streak in the series. The Thunderbirds enter the game at 3-0 following a powerful start to the season with a win against Park-Gilbert and Washington State.
Southern Utah will bring tough competition to ICCU Arena as they average 14 points off turnovers and average 84.7 points a game on the season so far. After two consecutive sub-par seasons, Head Coach Tracy Mason and the Thunderbirds are eager to reclaim their status atop the WAC.
