LA JOLLA, Calif. - On the second game of their Southern California road trip, Idaho fell to undefeated UC San Diego, 67-75.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two sides went back and forth through the first six minutes, with the game was tied at 12 at the 13:40 mark. A Kolton Mitchell three, his second of the day, set off a 15-2 Vandal run over the next six minutes.

Mitchell was the primary engine of Idaho's offense in the first 20 minutes, racking up 11 points and dishing two assists. His greatest first-half highlight was just before the break, a sequence where he bobbed and weaved through a series of Triton defenders, before turning around and converting a floater from inside the paint to give Idaho a 10-point lead into the half.

The Vandals' strong opening half from the field, where they made 44% of their shots, while going 7-15 from three, did not carry over to the second. Idaho struggled to knock down shots, missing its first seven of the half and allowing UC San Diego to climb out of their 10-point hole. Over the middle part of the period, UI traded buckets with the Tritons, matching each shot down the stretch and tying the game prior to the eight-minute media timeout.

UCSD took control from this point, however, snagging their first lead with 5:38 left, on their way to a 23-11 run to close the game.

Idaho's defense stood up again and showed strong signs of improvement, holding the Tritons to 48% from the field, only allowing five threes, and 35 rebounds, all season lows. The Black and Gold outrebounded their opponent for the fourth straight game and pulled down more than 10 on the offensive end for the third game in a row.
