PULLMAN, Wash. – The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team opens the 52nd season in program history on Monday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. in Beasley Coliseum, where it will renew a local rivalry and take on the Washington State Cougars.

The game tips off at 11 a.m. and can be seen on ESPN+ with Trevor Williams and Matt Muhlebach on the broadcast. It can also be heard on the Vandal Athletic Network with Doug Taylor on the call. This is the 43rd overall meeting between the two teams, the last meeting coming in Pullman last season on Nov. 10, 2024.

The Vandals are led by second-year head coach Arthur Moreira who is the first Brazilian head coach in Division I history. Moreira led the Vandals to 18 wins in his inaugural season at the helm, surpassing the Hall of Famer Tara VanDerveer for most wins in a first season as Idaho head coach.

Moreira and his staff went to work in the transfer portal this past offseason, signing five players that gave the Vandals the 23rd-ranked transfer class in the entire nation – far and away the best in the Big Sky Conference. Idaho's transfer class is headlined by five-star recruit Debora Dos Santos – a forward who played her previous three seasons at San Francisco. In her last healthy season, she averaged a double-double and was named to the First Team All-WCC.

Lorena Barbosa, Dos Santos' former teammate at San Francisco, also signed with the Vandals this past offseason. She is a skilled 6'5" forward who can do a bit of everything offensively. Kyra Gardner, a wing player who was previously playing for Washington State, also signed for Moreira and company, as did Niveya Henley – a former All-SoCon player at Furman – and Mary McMorris who joined the Vandals from Valdosta State.

Hope Hassmann returns for her second year at Idaho. A combo guard, Hassmann was one of just a few players to rank in the top ten in the Big Sky Conference in points and assists per game last season. She earned all-conference accolades to wrap up 2024-25, and was one of six players named to the 2025-26 Preseason All-Big Sky Conference team.

IDAHO NOTES
  • The Vandals were picked third in both the Preseason Big Sky Conference media and coaches polls. Idaho received one first-place vote in the coaches poll, and seven in the media poll – second most in the Big Sky. Last season, Idaho was picked eighth in the preseason polls and finished third.
  • Led by the first Brazilian head coach in Division I history, Idaho has more international talent than most teams from around the country, with three players from Brazil (Barbosa, Ana Beatriz Passos Alves da Silva, Dos Santos), one from Estonia (Katlin Kangur), one from Portugal (Ana Pinheiro), one from Serbia (Anja Bukvic), and one from Sweden (Sofia Ekh).
  • Da Silva and Pinheiro both gained invaluable experience this past season, playing for their respective national teams. In the EuroBasket U-20 tournament, Pinheiro played exceptionally well and was in the MVP conversation for the entire tournament.
