IRVINE, Calif. – The Idaho Vandals women's basketball team opened the ZotGiving Classic by rolling to an 82-53 victory over Colgate, extending its win streak to five games in a row.
The first frame was back and forth for the first few minutes, but a 6-0 Idaho run, capped by a layup from Debora Dos Santos, forced an early Colgate timeout. Coming out of the break, Idaho got another stop and Dos Santos connected on another of her six field goals to give the Vandals a 16-10 lead.
Hope Hassmann scored the final four points of the opening period to extend Idaho's advantage to 24-16 as the horn sounded.
The UI lead grew to as much as 13 in the second quarter following an
Ana Pinheiro three-pointer on a fast break. Colgate chipped into that lead a bit, but it was the Vandals who would take a 10-point lead to the locker rooms at halftime.
Idaho came out on fire on the third, going on a 21-8 extended run to start the period, ending on an
Ella Uriarte shot from beyond-the-arc, giving the Vandals what proved to be an insurmountable 61-36 lead with 2:03 left in the third. A pair of free throws from Pinheiro made the score 63-39, going to the fourth.
The Vandal offense continued to cook as head coach and master chef
Arthur Moreira's offense scored over 80 points for the fifth time in seven games this season, finishing the contest with 82 points, winning its fifth game in a row and moving its record to 6-1 this season.
UP NEXT: Idaho plays Wichita State on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. in Irvine to close the ZotGiving Classic. There will be no video broadcast of the game, it can be heard on the Vandal Radio Network.
