MOSCOW, Idaho– A late Vandal Football rally came up just short during Family Weekend, 14-28, against Big Sky rival No. 11 UC Davis.
The Vandals found themselves in a deficit early in the first after a series of penalties kept the drive alive for UC Davis, and the Aggies doubled up the lead

Idaho started hot in the second. On the first play of the quarter, Joshua Wood heaved a career-long 68-yard bomb to Michael Graves to get the Vandals on the board. The touchdown also marked a season-long reception for Graves.

After a few exchanges of possession, the Brave and Bold were once again set in scoring position. On fourth down from the Aggie six-yard line, Wood lobbed a pass to an open Nolan McWilliams in the back of the endzone. A flag was thrown, and the score was overturned by a ruling of illegal touching against the Vandals.

Despite this effort, the UC Davis offense continued to prove strong as they marched 94 yards downfield to post their third touchdown of the half.

With a few seconds remaining in the opening half, the Aggies opted to go for a 50-yard field goal. Captain Sam Brown broke through the line and got a hand up to earn Idaho's first blocked field goal since December 3, 2023. Following the block, UI headed to the locker room down 7-21.

On their second drive of the half, Davis broke free, scoring their first touchdown on the ground, and stretching the lead to 28-7. At the 5-minute mark in the third frame, the defense rose to the occasion with the Aggies knocking on the door, getting a stop at their own 1-yard line. The Silver and Gold stood pat as the Aggies ran four straight plays within the Idaho five-yard line. The Vandal defense forced a turnover-on-downs, giving the offense the ball back at their own eight-yard line.

In the final quarter, the Vandal offense valiantly fought back. A career-long 48-yard catch from Marquawn McCraney kick-started the drive. A few moments later, Wood zipped another pass downfield to find Graves once again in the endzone, cutting into the Aggie lead, and giving the senior receiver new career highs in receiving touchdowns and receiving yards in a single game.

On the opposite side of the ball, safety Hayden John showcased his skillset by snagging his first career interception, giving the Idaho offense a chance deep inside their own territory.

After a long and hard-fought battle, the Vandals failed to secure the victory in this Family Weekend matchup.
