Vandal Track and Field Sets Two School Records in Solid Weekend

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal track and field team continued their regular season this weekend in the state of Washington, with two meets that saw two school records broken and numerous Vandals set career bests.

UW Invitational: In Seattle, Idaho went toe-to-toe with some of the best runners in the country.

On Friday night, the women's distance medley relay team of Katja Pattis, Franziska Stoehr, Leah Holmgren, and Constanze Paoli ran a 11:21.29, breaking the 19 year old school record by nearly 15 seconds. This is the first time this season this relay team has raced together and their time is the 17th fastest in the nation.

Sam Fulbright competed in the 3K for the first time this season, setting a career-best mark of 8:19.85, the third fastest time in UI history. Fulbright followed this up by running another career-best on Saturday, this time in the mile, crossing the line in 4:16.76.

Freshman Pia Kircher ran the fastest 3K by a Vandal woman in 2025, a 9:52.42. Junior Abigail Thomas also ran a career-best in the distance, finishing her race in 10:03.50.

Saturday brought another school record, this time by Blossom Omogor in the 400, as she shaved almost four tenths off the record set by Prabhasha Wickramaarachchi in 2024. Omogor's 54.87 is the fifth fastest time in the Big Sky in 2025.

Sophomore Jana Willems sprinted to the fourth fastest 60 meter time in Vandal history in the preliminary round, completing the distance in 7.58 seconds. The Snohomish, Wash. native clocked a 7.62 in the final, finishing fourth.

"It was a great weekend in Seattle for our athletes. Anytime you can set a school record - that's a tremendous accomplishment. To set 2 records in the same weekend is outstanding," Idaho Director of Track and Field Tracy Hellman said after the meets wrapped up Saturday. "On Friday, our women's (distance medley relay) crushed a long standing record and had a great race. Then today, Blossom Okofor put her name in the record book with the school record on the 400."

Inland Northwest Invitational: In Spokane, the Vandal throwers continued to excel, with two athletes making the podium in the shot put.

Mia Sylvester continued to trend up, as the junior took first place with a throw of 14.60 meters, her best of the year and the second longest in the conference. Noah Culbertson placed third, posting a mark of 16.42 meters. Freshman Tesse Kamps just missed out on a spot in the top three, finishing fourth with a collegiate-best throw of 13.32 meters.

On the track, Adelyn Mitchell made it to the finals in the 60 meters with back-to-back 7.80 second times. The freshman from Kamiakin, Wash. shaved one-hundredth of a second off her time from the Lauren McClusky Invitational.

Zac Knapp posted the 10th fastest 3K time in school history, crossing the stripe at 8:27.94.

"We had numerous PR's all weekend, so our kids were focused and ready to go," Hellman stated. "We also had some outstanding performances in Spokane with the other group. So overall another great weekend for Idaho track and field. We are getting better as we enter February."

Idaho has only one meet on the schedule next weekend, as the Vandals head back to Spokane for the Riverfront Invitational and Multis. The meet is slated to take place over three days, starting on Thursday, February 6th and ending on Saturday, February 8th.
