MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Women's Basketball program and its Head Coach,
Arthur Moreira, have announced the signing of 6'5" post player Lorena Barbosa.
Having spent four seasons at San Francisco, Barbosa is familiar with playing with Debora dos Santos whom the Vandals signed yesterday. The Itatiba, Brazil native immediately brings size that was unmatched on last year's Idaho team and is one of the tallest players in the Big Sky Conference.
Last season she appeared in 11 games and recorded arguably the best game of her career against Northern Arizona. In the Dons contest against the Lumberjacks, Barbosa tallied a career-high 16 points in just 19 minutes on 4-6 shooting, while also corralling four rebounds and snatching three steals.
Barbosa has shown the ability to shoot from outside and her ball-handling skills is something that is rarely seen in Big Sky Conference player.
With the signings of Barbosa and dos Santos, the Vandals now have three players from Brazil on the roster for next season.
MOREIRA'S THOUGHTS
"Lorena and I have a great relationship! I started recruiting her in 2017 and we were lucky to land her at San Francisco. She comes from one of the best youth programs in Brazil and was coached by a close friend of mine – Cristiano Cedra. She has one of the highest ceilings of any player I hve ever recruited. She was one of only two youth players called to the 2019 National Team Pan American Games training camp – the same event that Brazil was able to beat Team USA and be crowned champions in."
