MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho track and field heads into the penultimate weekend of their 2025 campaign, as the outdoor season continues to wind down. The first weekend of May is a double meet weekend for the Vandals, with athletes competing at the Oregon State High Performance in Corvallis, Oregon, and the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona. The fields at both meets are filled with top Big Sky and national talent.
35 Vandals will compete at Oregon State beginning on Friday. The men's discus and the women's hammer throw kick things off at 10 a.m.
Noah Culbertson is one of three men to represent the black and gold in the discus in Corvallis. The senior from Sherwood, Oregon currently holds the 13th longest throw in the Big Sky, after a toss of 46.48 meters at last weekend's Cougar Classic.
Mia Sylvester headlines the Vandals in the hammer throw, as she looks to continue her hot streak in the event after a season-best 48.60-meter mark a week ago. Sylvester will also compete in the shot put on Saturday, an event in which she currently ranks third in the Big Sky. A week ago, the senior took the spot with a 15.17 meter throw, her longest outdoors since winning the 2023 conference title.
Myron Rethymniotakis will take on the 400-meter hurdles for the third time this season in Corvallis. The freshman is ranked 14th in the conference in the event.
Zac Knapp and
McKenna Kozeluh are set to compete in the 5K invite to close out Friday night. Knapp ran a top-25 Big Sky time in his first college attempt at the event at the Whitworth Peace Meet in April, a 14:28.72.
Zac Bright is entered into the 800 invite on Saturday afternoon, following a 1:49.92 effort at the Beach Invitational that placed him second in the conference. Seven Vandal women will run in the 800, as
Leah Holmgren and
Katja Pattis look to improve on their top-20 conference times.
The Vandals will have their women's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams competing at the Desert Heat Classic, as Idaho looks to improve their footing with two weeks until the Big Sky Championships in Sacramento, California.
UI will send athletes to compete in next weekend's Portland Track Twilight, as a last effort before the 2025 Big Sky Championships May 14 through 17.
