Records Fall as Vandals Compete Among the Best Big Sky Outdoor Championships

FULL RESULTS

MOSCOW, Idaho -
Idaho Track and Field traveled to Sacramento, California for the annual Big Sky Outdoor Championships, one of two tournaments hosted by the conference throughout indoor and outdoor season.

Bringing a talented squad to the land of the Hornets, the time was now for the athletes to be at their best, and the school's top ten faced some revisions after a strong outing by the black and gold.

Though the action commenced on Wednesday, Idaho's first events began on Friday, where many of the track events held their prelims and the jumps kicked off.

To get things going the track, Mika Brouwer set a personal best in the 400m prelims with a time of 47.87 seconds, qualifying for the finals at the same time. In the qualifiers for the 400m hurdles, multiple Vandals saved some of their best for last, with Franziska Stoehr leading the back with a season-best 59.92, and Rhyan Madden was just behind with a personal record 1:01.71 to send them both to the finals.

Blossom Omogor continued a dynamic sophomore season in the longer sprints, as the sophomore laid claim to the 400m school record once again. In the biggest stage yet of the season, Omogor finished second overall with a time of 53.83 seconds, more than a full second over her previous top time. In the finals, she would finish fourth overall, clocked at 54.63 seconds.

Katja Pattis claimed an all-conference nod by finishing second in the 3000m steeplechase, setting a new personal best time of 10:03.05. Just behind her was Constanze Paoli, who also tore through her personal best to finish third, clocked at 10:10.24 and earning all-conference honors as well.

Over on the field, Jesuye Doherty, the reigning conference indoor freshman of the year, wasted no time getting the Vandals their first win of the week. The Australia native left no doubt in his first collegiate outdoor championship, as he earned a 7.37m (24'2.25") mark on the last of his six jumps, setting an outdoor season best and beating second place by .22 meters.

Shawn Twumasi-Ampofo, the indoor conference champion in the triple jump, earned third place in the outdoor variant, saving his best for last with a distance of 15.07m (49'5.5"). On the women's side, sophomore Francesca Cuccu took home eighth with a height of 11.83m (38'9.75").

Mia Sylvester continued to dominate in the throws, where she has been a force throughout her career. After earning her second conference title in as many semesters in the indoor season, Sylvester launched the shot put a season best 15.73m (51'7.25"), nearly matching her personal best in the process. Mia had herself a conference championship week all around, finishing top eight in all three of her events.

The top finisher in the jumps for the Vandals was Annika Jozin, who secured all-conference honors with a mark of 1.72m (5'7.75") and vaulted herself up to seventh in school history for her efforts.

Gioele Tengattini secured fifth for Idaho in the men's discus throw with a mark of 51.52m (169'0") and Noah Culbertson earned the same spot in the shot put, as the senior wrapped up his final conference championship with a throw of 16.89m (55'5")

The week ended with the relays, where the Vandal women put up strong performances. Notably, Jana Willems, Alyssa Marsh, Franziska Stoehr, and Lara Holzhauer took home the bronze in the 4x100m with a time of 46.39 seconds, securing all-conference honors for each of them to conclude the championships.
