MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho Swim and Dive returned to action at the first dual meet of the fall semester, traveling to Caldwell, ID to take on the College of Idaho Yotes in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center. Technical difficulties delayed the results by a couple days, but they have since been released and paint the picture of a massive opening win for the University of Idaho over the College.
The biggest event of the day for the Vandals came early in the diving portion from the 1M platform. Two newcomers made huge (or rather, minimal) splashes from the board. Freshman Kelly Mejorada, originally hailing from Urbiquinta, Mexico, went and broke an 11-year old school record by scoring a 312.65 in her Vandal debut and marking the first addition to the diving portion of the school record books since 2023.Â
She wasn't alone, however, as graduate student Maya Salvitti also etched her name school history in her first meet as a Vandal. The UCLA transfer earned a bid to the NCAA Championships last year and made a mark with a 273.30 score in Caldwell, the 10th-best such mark in school history.
Over in the swimming events, the Vandals had strong starts to the season across the board, picking up 1st-3rd finishes in each swimming event that took place. Notable marks from the returners were Ginger Kiefer, already holding multiple school records, winning the 200 Y IM (2:09.61) and the 200 Y Backstroke (2:06.09), Holly Lenarz took home first place in the 200 Y Free (1:56.67) and 200 Y Fly (2:10.88), and Marie Mason won the 500 Y Free (5:11.94) by nearly six full seconds.
Newcomers making an impact in their Vandal debut included Grace Benson taking home the only sub-minute time in the 100 Y Backstroke (59.00) and winning the event, freshman Italia Ingle collecting her first career win in the 100 Y Fly (58.87) and finishing second in the 200 Y Fly (2:10.88), and Kristen Sautel finishing second overall in the 100 Y Breaststroke (1:07.00)

The Vandals have two weeks of prep before traveling to take on a foe familiar to the institution across all sports, Northern Colorado, on Oct. 11. The Bears were among the teams that departed the WAC alongside the Vandals to join the MPSF for the 2025-26 season.
