MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team took on in-state rival Idaho State for the 59th meeting in a "Blackout the Bengals" themed contest where the Mighty Lady Vandals emerged victorious.

Idaho took the lead early
and never looked back, as Lorena Barbosa started the scoring with a jumper off an assist from Kyra Gardner for the first points of the game. Gardner put up a statement with a buzzer-beating step-back three with a Bengal defender in her face, finding the bottom of the net to wrap up the first quarter 21-14.

Idaho State
rolled into the second quarter with a jumper but was unable to secure the ball as Idaho had five steals throughout the frame.

Coming into the
third, the Vandals caught an early technical foul that gave the Bengals hope for a shift in momentum, but that light was quickly snuffed out as Idaho marched forward to a 19-point lead, which was its largest of the game.

Halfway through the fourth
, the Bengals opted for a hard full-court press, but it didn't matter to Idaho as their composure not only broke the press, but found Ella Uriarte on the corner draining a three. Shortly after Debora dos Santos got her 10th rebound of the game, securing her second double-double of the season.

As the game came to a close, Idaho took the Vandal Victory 81-68
in the first matchup of the battle for the King Spud Trophy. This dominant win over Idaho State provided a seven-point lead in the contest for the King Spud as the men and women split on the night for the first time in decades.

This marked Head Coach Arthur Mo
reira's first win in the skirmish of the rivalry that dates back to Dec. 7, 1979. This outing was a display of polarity as Idaho State's defense-first approach was no match for Idaho's pace-pushing offense.

The Vandals
closed the night with a rivalry win, pushing them towards a 3-1 record in conference play.

UP NEXT: The Vandals will be back home and will host Weber State on Saturday, Jan. 17. That game will tip off at 2 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+ or heard on the Vandal Radio network.
