MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team added another win to its conference record after defeating the Weber State Wildcats 95-76 in Saturday's showdown.
The game opened with a back-and-forth rhythm, as both teams exchanged early buckets while searching for control. As Idaho found its rhythm, the Vandals set the ICCU Arena into an uproar as they found
Ana Beatriz Passos Alves da Silva alone in the corner, where she drained the three, extending the lead to 12-6. Idaho continued to run away with the lead as
Kyra Gardner splashed a buzzer-beating three to close out the first quarterfrom the top of the key for the second game in a row.
Entering the second quarter, the Vandals led 33-19. Throughout this frame, Gardner put 14 on the board, where she was three for five from three-point land. The Mighty Lady Vandals ended the half with a lead of 56-42.
After the break, Idaho fans waited on the edge of their seats, as
Debora dos Santos was just three points away from the 1,000-career point milestone. With two minutes remaining in the third, dos Santos weaved through the Weber State defenders for a basket off the glass, breaking the mark with 1,001 points. The five-star prospect is averaging 10.5 points per game. Adding to the historic night, dos Santos put the cherry on top with a double-double for the second consecutive game.
As the battle came to an end, Gardner broke was on the road to break her career-high of 28 points, but fell just short, finishing the night with 27 on the board with eight rebounds and four assists. This was Gardner's team-leading fourth game with 20 or more points and her fifth game leading the Vandals in scoring.
The Brave and Bold defeated Weber State 95-76 with a breakthrough performance.
