GAME NOTES (PDF)
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team (13-5, 4-1) looks to continue its historic start, and heads out on the road to play the Sacramento State Hornets (9-9, 3-2).
The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+. Doug Taylor, the Voice of the Vandals, can be heard over the airwaves on the Vandal Athletics Radio Network.
Idaho comes into the game after a pair of wins last week to improve its record to 13-5 (4-1), tying the 2015-16 Vandals for best start to a season this decade. The Vandals also boast this week's Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, Debora Dos Santos, who tallied two double-doubles last week, averaging 12 points and 11 rebounds per game in Idaho's wins against Idaho State and Weber State. She's the third Vandal to win that award this season (
Kyra Gardner,
Hope Hassmann).
This will be a matchup between a high-scoring offense (Idaho, 80,.7 ppg), against one of the best defenses in the conference (Sacramento State, 59.3 ppg). The Vandals have scored 80 or more points on 11 occasions this year, and are 10-1 in those games. As a team, Idaho set a new season-high in scoring against Weber State with 95, the most UI has scored against a Big Sky opponent since 2020 (Feb. 22, at Sacramento State, 96).
UI currently leads or is near the top of the Big Sky in a host of statistical categories. The Vandals are one of the best rebounding teams in the nation, ranking fourth in the country for most rebounds per game (46.89). Idaho also leads the Big Sky in points per game (80.7, 21
st nationally), field goal percentage (43.5%), and assist/turnover ratio (1.0).
Sacramento State was on a three-game winning streak until it faced Northern Colorado last Saturday in a game the Hornets would lose 46-68. Rubi Gray is the Hornets' top scorer at 15.4 points per game.
