MOSCOW, Idaho  In a Sunday showdown to open the Idaho Men's Tennis team's home matches, the Vandals split the day 1-1.

Idaho started things off on the right foot as it brought home the doubles point. On court three, Eric Wang and Paul Janson dominated the competition, bringing down the Fighting Hawks' doubles team. Moments later in the one spot, Sander Paradis and Mikolaj Lis walked the same path, securing the point for the Vandals.

Entering singles play, Janson continued the momentum on court three. In a drama-filled matchup, Idaho's 6'7" German sophomore toppled North Dakota's Justin Ilic 7-5 and 6-4. This marks Janson's third consecutive singles match win. Gabriel Moroder fought a gritty match-up against North Dakota's Walker Valentine, taking the match to three sets. Moroder ultimately took home the singles point in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 score. Despite hard-fought sets, the Vandals were met with a cruel feeling of Déjà vu falling to the Fighting Hawks 4-3.

However, the Vandals were not kept down by heartbreak. Idaho went into the evening match and swept the George Fox Bruins with a final score of 7-0. The Vandals got off to a strong start, sweeping all three doubles matches and never looking back. Gabriel Moroder and Chetanna Amadike set the tone early, finishing their match first with a final score of 6-2.

On the singles side of the evening skirmish, the Vandals ran away with all five singles matches. In the four spot, Noe De Col dominated George Fox's Aiden Cruz in a score of 6-0, 6-1. The Bruins met the same fate against Amadike, Eric WangXavier Martin Roca, and Valentin Glasl. The Vandals took home the win 7-0.

UP NEXT: Idaho will continue its home stretch at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome on Saturday, Jan. 31, with another double-header against Oral Roberts and Lewis and Clark State at 10 A.M. and 3 P.M.
