GREELEY, Colo. – The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team (15-5, 6-1), winners of four in a row and seven of their last eight, head to Colorado, where they will take on the Northern Colorado Bears (15-6, 6-2) in the Big Sky Conference Game of the Week. This is also Northern Colorado's Kids Game.
The game will tip off at 11 a.m. PT and can be seen on ESPN+. Doug Taylor, the Voice of the Vandals, can be heard over the airwaves on the Vandal Athletics Radio Network.
Over Idaho's last eight games, the Vandals have an average scoring margin of +9 and have scored 80 or more points in four of those games. Idaho has scored 80 or more points 12 times this season, and the Vandals are 11-1 in those games.
Hope Hassmann led the scoring effort for the Vandals against Portland State – a game in which the Vandals scored 84 points – tallying 20 points, and recording her first career double-double with a career high 12 assists.
The Mighty Vandal offense leads the Big Sky Conference in scoring with 79.9 points per game. Idaho is led by
Kyra Gardner and Hassmann, each of whom are averaging over 13 points per game.
Ana Pinheiro (10.7 ppg) and Debora Dos Santos (10.4 ppg) are also averaging double digits in scoring.
Since
Arthur Moreira took over as Head Coach last season, Idaho has been among the best rebounding teams in the country. This season, the Vandals lead the Big Sky in every major rebounding category, and are ranked in the top 10 in the nation in each of those categories, as well. Idaho has outrebounded opponents in 17 games this season and is 13-4 in those games.
Northern Colorado is in third place in the conference with a 15-6 (6-2) record this season. The Bears have the third best offense (71.5 ppg) and defense (60.6 ppg) in the Big Sky. UNCo is led in scoring by Neenah George (13.6 ppg). Northern Colorado also the top scoring bench in the conference, ranking third in the nation with a scoring average of 33.8 ppg.
IDAHO NOTES
- The Vandals have made 144 three-pointers this season and have made a three ball in 563 consecutive games.
- With Arthur Moreira at the helm, Idaho has the first Brazilian head coach in Division I history. The Vandals also have the most Brazilians on roster of any team in Division I with three.
- Idaho has one of the youngest coaching staffs in Division I, with an average age of 32.
- Debora Dos Santos just surpassed the 1,000-career point plateau, while Hope Hassmann is at 938.
