Idaho Continues Conference Play Hosting Idaho State

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho soccer continues Big Sky Conference play Sunday afternoon  welcoming in-state rival Idaho State to the P1FCU Kibbie Dome. Kickoff is set for 1 PM PST.

The Vandals enter Sunday's matchup with a 6-2-3 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in conference play, after opening the Big Sky schedule with a 1-1 draw against Weber State on Thursday night.

Idaho held the reins for a majority of the opening half against the conference favorite Wildcats, out shooting Weber State 14-1 and putting nine shots on goal. Caitlyn Riggs broke through in the 44th minute with her first goal of the season off an assist from Payton Oelkers, sending Idaho into halftime with the 1-0 advantage

Weber State found the equalizer with only four minutes left in the second half off a header from Bonnie Buswell.

The Vandals finished the match with a 17-10 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in shots on goal.

Idaho State enters the P1FCU Kibbie Dome with a 2-5-3 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in Big Sky play.

The Bengals opened conference action Thursday with a scoreless draw on the road against Eastern Washington. Idaho State outshot the Eagles 12-7 and held a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Fifth year goalkeeper Aliya Garrett recorded her third shutout of the season in the draw, while the Bengal defense limited Eastern Washington to just one shot on goal over both halves.

Offensively, Idaho State has shown the ability to create opportunities throughout the season. Entering conference play, the Bengals ranked third in the Big Sky with 13.78 shots per game. Lena Bonnard, the freshmen midfielder from France, led Idaho State with four shots against Eastern Washington, while three different Bengals put an attempt on frame.

Sunday will be the Bengals' second consecutive road conference match before they return to Pocatello for a pair of home contests.

Idaho looks to continue its strong play on its home turf. The Vandals have relied on a balanced attack and a defense that has consistently limited opposing opportunities throughout the season.

Throughout Thursday's match, Idaho has allowed just six goals across 11 contests, recording six shutouts.

Sunday's matchup gives the Vandals another opportunity to earn points at home as the Big Sky schedule gets underway.
