GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Josh McCartain and Sam Johnson continued their outstanding season and led the Vandals to a sixth-place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
 
McCartain was under par for all three rounds and closed the event with two birdies and an eagle on the last five holes to surge into a tie for sixth place in the field that included 119 golfers. He finished 10-under (206) on the weekend. He has finished in the top 13 in every tournament this season for the Vandals.
 
Johnson was steady throughout the tournament, going one-under in round one before playing two under in both of the final two rounds. His five-under 208 was good enough for T14, just one stroke out of the top 10.
 
Freshman Henrik Koglin was solid in his second career start, and the first outside of the Palouse. He finished even par for the tournament at 216. Good enough for T50th position. Dalton Dean finished two-over 218 for the tournament highlighted by his second-round 69. Joe Sykes finished 16-over to close out the starting lineup.
 
Charley Simpson, playing as an individual, finished eight-over for 96th on the weekend.
 
"Overall, I was pleased to see Josh and Sam play very solidly out of the gate," head coach David Nuhn said. "The course was playing fair and rewarded smart shot making and good short game. I was also pleased with Henrik on his first trip away from home as a Vandal. To count all three rounds meant he was a contributor to our team finish. We have 10 days to work out the kinks and be more prepared to have success in Fresno. Go Vandals!"
