MOSCOW, Idaho – On a Thursday night with a crowd of over 1,300 Vandal faithful, the Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball Team secured a win of 86 - 66 against the Portland State Vikings.
Idaho's offense wasted no time finding its rhythm, as all-conference guard Hope Hassmann banking home a driving layup. As the first quarter continued on, Kyra Gardner stepped into a three-pointer with two sets of Viking hands in her face, burying it energizing the bench and crowd. The Vandals were locked in from the start, shooting a blistering 57.9 percent in the first quarter while going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Debora Dos Santos led the way offensively in the opening half, pouring in nine points to pace Idaho. Her steady scoring, combined with Hassmann's aggressive start, helped fuel an 8-0 run in the second quarter that created separation the Vandals needed.
As the second half began, Ella Uriarte wasted no time extending the Idaho lead, knocking down a triple to open the third quarter and push the Vandal lead to a baker's-dozen.
Ana Pinheiro delivered a strong performance carried into the second half as she dished out three of her team-leading five assists. Her final line read 10 points, 10 boards, five assists, and no turnovers.
