MOSCOW, Idaho – On Saturday afternoon, the Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team secured a wire-to-wire victory of 75-60 against the Sacramento State Hornets behind 22 points from
Hope Hassmann and Debora Dos Santos' fifth double-double of the season.Â
The Vandals wasted no time setting the tone, opening the game with possession off the tip and feeding it to Lorena Barbosa to get Idaho on the board first and spark early momentum.Â
Idaho found its rhythm quickly, locking in on both ends of the floor. Behind their aggressive defense and efficient scoring, the mighty Vandals closed the first quarter on a commanding 12-point run that gave the home side firm control. Ana Pinheiro and Kyra Gardner led the charge early, each pouring in buckets as they combined for the team's highest point totals in the opening frame.
UI carried that momentum into the second quarter, continuing to attack the paint and draw contact. Debora Dos Santos helped push the pace for Idaho throughout the second frame, scoring seven to lift the Vandals to a 14-point advantage. The Vandals' consistency at the line paired with another explosive stretch - a nine-point run - further extended the lead.
As the second half began, the Black and Gold came out with the same fire that carried them through the opening 20 minutes, as Hassmann ignited the attack in the third quarter, ripping down an electric board in traffic before turning defense into offense on the other end. She erupted for 10 points in that frame alone, attacking downhill and knocking down key shots to keep Idaho firmly in control.
Midway through the quarter, the Vandals strung together another decisive 10-0 run, extending the gap to 20 by the end of the period. The surge pushed the momentum fully in Idaho's favor and kept its opponent searching for answers, by holding them to only 30% shooting from the floor over the first three quarters.
Dos Santos continued her steady dominance inside, controlling the glass and finishing through contact. By the end of the third, she secured her fifth double-double, once again proving to be a consistent force on both ends of the floor.
Hassmann remained a steady presence throughout the night, pouring in 13 of her 22 points in the second half - to secure her second-highest scoring performance of the season. Her late surge propelled the Vandals to a 75-60 victory over Sacramento State, to secure a dominant 13-1 home record.
