MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team (17-5, 8-1) is back in ICCU Arena this week, where they will be hosting the Montana State Bobcats (16-5, 9-1) in what is the biggest game in the Big Sky Conference thus far this season.
The game will tip off at 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+. Trevor Williams and Stephen Madison will be on the call on TV. Doug Taylor, the Voice of the Vandals, can be heard over the airwaves on the Vandal Athletics Radio Network. Idaho will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports during the game and is anticipating a large crowd.
The Vandals tip off the second half of conference action against the team that is currently in first place – Idaho only trails the Bobcats by half a game. The winner of Thursday's contest will be alone in first place in the Big Sky.
Idaho has won its last six games and 10 of its last 11 to solidify its spot in the top of the Big Sky standings. The average margin of victory over the last half dozen games has been +14.5. The Vandals have been led offensively by
Hope Hassmann and
Kyra Gardner this season, who are averaging 13.8 and 13.5 ppg, respectively. Idaho has had the top offense in the Big Sky all season long and is putting up nearly 80 points a game.
Coming off one of its best offensive outbursts of the season, the Vandals have put up 80 or more points 13 times this season, with a 12-1 record in those games. Idaho has scored 90 or more points four times this season, including in its most recent win against NAU.
Ever since
Arthur Moreira took over as Head Coach, the Vandals have been one of the best rebounding teams in the nation. The Vandals currently rank fourth in the country with over 46 rebounds per contest.
Montana State was picked as the preseason favorite to defend the conference title it won last season. The 'Cats are the highest ranked team in the NET in the Big Sky Conference.
PROMOTIONS
Idaho Eats is offering free bottomless popcorn to all K-12 students who come to tomorrow's game wearing a jersey – only applicable if wearing HIRC, Middle School, High School, or Vandal Jerseys.
Men's Basketball Head Coach Alex Pribble and
Arthur Moreira have promised free pizza to all Idaho fraternities and sororities that go to the game with 20 or more people from their chapters, take a picture, and post it on social media.
IDAHO NOTES
- The Vandals have made 156 three-pointers this season and have made a three ball in 565 consecutive games.
- With Arthur Moreira at the helm, Idaho has the first Brazilian head coach in Division I history. The Vandals also have the most Brazilians on roster of any team in Division I with three.
- Idaho has one of the youngest coaching staffs in Division I, with an average age of 32.
- Debora Dos Santos just surpassed the 1,000-career point plateau, while Hope Hassmann is at 973.
