Idaho Women's Tennis Secures First Conference Road Wins

The Vandals defeated Weber State and Utah State while on the road.

NOTABLES:  MOSCOW, Idaho- Idaho traveled to Utah this weekend and defeated both Weber State and Utah State in their first set of conference road matches. The Vandals defeated the Wildcats 6-1 on Friday and walked away with a victory on Sunday over the Aggies, 4-3. 

Idaho began its second weekend of conference competition with a matchup against Weber State on Friday morning. The Vandals were able to get an early lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. Hanna Koprowska and Ida Johansson defeated their opponents 6-3 while Valentina Rodas and Chenyue Xu competed hard to secure the doubles point, 7-6.  

The Black and Gold swept singles play with wins in five of the six matchups. On courts one, four and five, Xu, Johansson and Rodas, defeated the Wildcats in two quick sets each. These matches lined up the Vandals for an early Friday morning victory to put the score at 4-1 prior to the last two matches of the day. On court two, Schraeder's match went to three sets after dropping the first set 6-7. She battled back for the remainder of the matchup and finalized the win 6-1, 6-2. Koprowska topped her first set 6-3 but her Wildcat opponent fought hard in the second, resulting in a tie break in favor of Idaho, 7-6.

Idaho's momentum was extended into its match up against Utah State early on Sunday morning. Despite the success on Friday, the Vandals battled hard against the Aggies but were edged out from the doubles point.  

Despite losing in doubles competition, Idaho entered singles play with grit and Vandal pride to work for a win. On courts one and two, Xu and Schraeder won their matches in two sets. On court three, Koprowska found herself with a three set match after dropping the first set 5-7. Down one set, she reigned in her strength and technique and finished out the match with the win 6-4, 6-3. Due to Aggie wins on courts four and five, the score was tied 3-3 but sophomore Soha Singh fought tough for a 6-3, 6-3 victory for Idaho.
