Vandals Battle Broncos for Bragging Rights

MOSCOW, Idaho – Statewide bragging rights are on the line Monday and Tuesday as the Idaho Vandal men's golf team takes on Boise State in the third annual Battle for Idaho at Hillcrest Country Club.
 
The two teams present a tight match up with Idaho entering the weekend ranked 134th in the Scoreboard Rankings while Boise State is ranked 123rd.
 
The dual will play in a six-count-four format with two rounds Monday and one on Tuesday. The course will be played at 6,810 yards and a par 71.
 
Idaho is coming off their third top three team finish of the season at Chambers Bay, finishing second while Josh McCartain finished T6th and Sam Johnson finished T11th.
 
Both teams have two team wins this season and three top three finishes this season, but the Broncos announced the departure of reigning Mountain West Player of the Year Cole Rueck, who qualified for the PGA Tour Americas and departed for Brazil where he finished 55th at the ECP Brazil Open, making his first professional cut.
 
McCartain will play in the No. 1 spot for the Vandals while Johnson will in the second spot for Idaho. Dalton Dean will play in the No. 3 spot and Joe Sykes will be the fourth golfer in the lineup. Charley Simpson is the No. 5 golfer for the dual and Henrik Koglin rounds out the lineup.
 
Teams will Tee off for round one at 7:30 a.m. Pacific/8:30 a.m. Mountain with two-man pairings at nine-minute intervals.
 
The teams split the first two meetings in the dual with Idaho winning the inaugural event in 2024 and the Broncos winning the event in 2025.
