PHOENIX, Ariz. – On Thursday, Idaho Women's Tennis kicked off the Big Sky Conference Tournament, sweeping Eastern Washington, 4-0, to pick up a first-round win in Phoenix

Needing a get-right against an opponent who had their number the week prior, the Vandals secured momentum early by clinching the doubles point in the first two opportunities. The duos of Ida Johannson/Hanna Koprowska and Valentina Rodas/Chenyue Xu took care of business on courts one and two. Soha Singh and Naomi Schraeder had the advantage on three before moving on to singles.

Xu led the way for UI in singles play, taking the first set and holding her opponent scoreless in the second to clinch an early win. Johannson and Singh followed up with straight set wins of their own, not surrendering more than two points in any of them, and clinching the day for the Vandals without surrendering a set. Koprowska had taken her first set as well and was neck-and-neck in the second before the day was ended and the match was awarded to Idaho.

With the win, the Vandals moved on to round two to take on top-seeded Sacramento State. Idaho notably knocked off the Hornets, 4-3, in the regular season.
