Vandals Set Relay Record in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Vandals started the weekend off strong at the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, where the team broke a school record, took home nearly ten event wins, along with a handful of personal bests from the one-day event.

The
Idaho 4x100m relay team, composed of Rhyan Madden, Jana Willems, Ashley Hollenbeck Willems, and Alyssa Marsh, shattered the school record and placed first with a time of 45.16, beating the previous two-year-old mark by more than two tenths. The women's 4x400m also had a strong meet, crossing the line in second. Willems found the top of the podium and a new personal record of 11.69 in the 100m, the second fastest time in school history. She was followed right behind by Hollenbeck Willems in the event, who slotted her name in the third spot in the Idaho record books, while also earning secondin the 200m with a season best. Madden placed first in the 400m hurdles after running her best time of the year, a 1:00.55, trailed by Maiya Brunoro in second and Lara Holzhauer in fourth.

The women not only dominated the track but found their groove
in the field as well. Cami Cvitkovich, a standout high jumper for the Vandals, finished first in her event. She was joined on the podium by Francesca Cuccu, who posted a 1.64m leap in her first meet of the outdoor season, in second. Sydnie Zywina soared to a 6.06m in the long jump, to earn the meet victory with the third longest jump in school history.

On the men's side, Keenan Kuntz showed out once more, earning his
top times in the 100m (10.32) and 200m (20.88), along with two top finishes. Blake Sturgis, following his solid performance last weekend, finished second in javelin, while Bradley Giesen also represented Idaho well by earning a gold in men's long jump, trailed right behind by Cash Jones

At the Stanford Invite
, Constance Paoli nearly became the third Vandal woman to break the 10-minute barrier in the 3000m steeplechase, running an impressive 10:00.58 in Palo Alto. Sophomore Pia Kircher represented Idaho in the women's 5000m at day one of the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco and to run a personal best time of 17:00.70. Not long after, senior Miles Ferguson ran a PB of 14:52.43 in the men's 5000m, as senior Luca Wagner topped off the meet by finishing the men's 1500m with a time of 3:53.22.
