Vandals Drop Saturday Contest to Rainbow Wahine in Honolulu

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Idaho Soccer battled throughout 90 minutes Saturday afternoon but suffered the first loss of the season to Hawaii, 2-0, at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The Vandals created opportunities throughout the match, outshooting the Rainbow Wahine 17-7 and putting six shots on goal. Idaho continued to battle throughout the whole game, creating several scoring opportunities while looking to break through Hawaii's defense. Sara Rodgers, Makenna Stuart, Payton Oelkers, and Quinn Mueller paced the attack with three shots apiece to combine for a dozen of Idaho's shot attempts.

Hawaii opened the scoring in the first half when Anuhea Aluli found the back of the net, with Piper Bertani providing the assist. Idaho continued to pressure the Rainbow Wahine following the opening goal, tallying eight shots and three shots on goal before halftime and holding the hosts to a one-score advantage at the break.

The Vandals continued to create opportunities in the attacking third, once again outshooting Hawaii 9-5 in the second half, including three attempts on goal. The brave and bold attack forced six saves from the Rainbow Wahine goalkeeper as Idaho was unable to find the back of the net for the first time in 2026.

Hawaii extended its lead in the second half when Olivia Dianda found the back of the net to make it a 2-0 match. The Vandals continued to battle through the final minutes, putting up powerful shots and making strong connections, but were held off the scoreboard up to the final whistle.

The result marks the end of the Hawaii slate for Jeremy Clevenger and co. as they will return to the P1FCU Kibbie Dome for the first time in nearly two weeks before hitting the road again to take on South Dakota and South Dakota State in a Summit League standoff within the Mount Rushmore State.
