2008-2009: Johnston took 22nd at the WAC XC Championships with a time of 27:10.60 and had his best finish of the year of 24:41 at teh Bronco Invitational at Santa Clara.

2007-08: Johnston competed in cross country and track and field for the Vandals. He finished 22nd at the WAC Cross Country Championships with a time of 25:00.80 to help the Idaho men take second as a team and finished 140th at the NCAA West Regional. On the track, he ran a career-best 2:02.24 in the 800m and a 4:33.62 in the mile run during the indoor season. He finished ninth in the mile run at the WAC Indoor Championships. He redshirted the outdoor season.

2007: Johnston finished ninth in the mile run at the WAC Indoor Championships and took 11th in the 1500m and 15th in the 800m run at the WAC Outdoor Championships.

Personal: He is the son of Kim and Terry Johnston. He was born Feb. 3, 1987, at Mission, British Columbia, Canada. He has one sister, Jennifer. He was a two-time regional cross country champion for Rick Hansen Secondary School and was a provincial bronze medalist in the 1500m. He is majoring in History at Idaho.
