David Lose

Lose (pronounced LOW-say) enters his second season coaching the interior defensive linemen.
 
In his first season, he helped improve defensive scoring from 31.55 allowed points per game in 2021 to just 25.42 PPG in 2022. The Vandal defense racked up 29 sacks and 71 tackles for loss on the year.
 
He came to Idaho from Oregon State where he spent four seasons as a Defensive Quality Control Analyst where he worked for Head Coach Jonathan Smith, a former Vandal assistant coach.

Lose spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons as the defensive line coach at Portland State. In 2018 Kenton Bartlett earned All-Big Sky honors.

Before Portland State, he coached six seasons as a Defensive Assistant at Washington State. He coached for two seasons at Saint Paul's College as the defensive line coach in 2009 and 2010 and coached at his Alma Mater Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento from 2006-08.

He played at Oregon State in the early 2000s, starting in 18 games. He was part of OSU's co-Pac-12 title Fiesta Bowl championship team and was a key blocker for Beaver running back greats Ken Simonton and Steven Jackson, and record-setting and NFL veteran quarterback Derek Anderson. Lose, who spent five seasons in Arena Football League-2.
