Malek was diagnosed with cancer the day before National Letter of Intent signing day in February. He is undergoing treatment but remains a member of the Vandal football team.

High school: Malek is as acclaimed as a wrestler as he is a football player. He played on offense and defense at West Valley and returned an interception 55 yards for a TD against Rogers. He was a state finalist in wrestling as a freshman, sophomore and junior. He currently has a career wrestling record of 101-8 with 84 pins.
