Jamie Schultz

Jamie Schultz

Jamie Schultz is in his third season as Idaho's outside linebackers coach. Schultz, a two-time University of Idaho graduate, was hired in February 2019. He worked with the Vandals in various capacities as an undergraduate and graduate assistant from 2013 through 2017, before spending the 2018 season as a defensive graduate assistant at Central Florida.

Despite injuries and protocols, the Vandal defense was outstanding in the spring of 2021. Led by First Team All-Big Sky selections Christian Elliss and Tre Walker, the Vandals led the Big Sky in rushing defense by a significant margin. Walker would go on to lead the conference in tackles, with Elliss close behind. Five other Vandals earned All-Big Sky honors on defense in the spring of 2021, including newcomer Fa’Avae Fa’Avae taking home honorable mention accolades.

In 2019, the linebackers stepped up. Christian Elliss and Walker both earned All-Big Sky honors, while several others saw tremendous improvement.

"Jamie is a Vandal through and through," Petrino said. "He brings a great energy out on the field, loves to study football and knows this system. He is a great fit for this position because of his love for this school and his passion to be a great coach."

In two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant for the Vandals Schultz assisted with coaching the linebackers, including Idaho's 2016 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl championship.

"I'm excited to be back with the Idaho family," Schultz said. "It's all about the family here and I'm really excited to be back with the coaches and players that I love."

In 2018 Schultz worked at UCF as a graduate assistant, working primarily with the defensive backs. He helped the Knights to a 12-win season and a berth in the 2019 Playstation Fiesta Bowl.

"Working with Coach (Randy) Shannon was an excellent opportunity to further my knowledge," Schultz said. "What I learned there will translate nicely with the linebacker group we have here."

Schultz, a graduate of Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from the U of I in 2015, before receiving a master's degree in adult organizational leadership in 2017 from the U of I. He is a certified and licensed physical education teacher.
