      Olson earned first-team all-California Region II honors as well as first-team Mid-Empire recognition after his sophomore season at Siskiyous. He also earned first-team Mid-Empire honors as a freshman.

      Olson played offensively and defensively at Amity High School, where he was selected to play in the Shrine All-Star game after his senior season. As a senior, he earned first-team 3A West Valley honors as a defensive lineman and second-team recognition as an offensive lineman. As a junior, he earned second-team all-state honors as a defensive lineman.
