Biography
2008-09: Hayward started 16 games and played in all 19 for Idaho as a true freshman. She moved forward from her outside back position and attempted four shots. She was a mainstay on the Idaho back line that allowed a team-low 11 goals in Western Athletic Conference play. She also joined the track and field team as a freshman and threw the javelin. She finished 12th at the WAC Championships in the event.
High School/Club: Hayward was a three-sport athlete for the Saxons of South Salem High School, as she competed in soccer, basketball and track and field. She earned All-Region and First Team All-Central Valley Conference honors in both 2006 and 2007, as well as one Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Athlete of the Week honor in 2007. She managed to move up the field from her defender position and score four goals her senior season. Hayward was a soccer team captain, as well as an eight-time Oregon All-Academic Team honoree during her career. Participated in the Oregon Olympic Development Program for three years. She played her club ball with the Westside Metros and the Cascade Futbol Club.
Personal: Hayward is the daughter of Larry and Sue Hayward. She has one brother, Ty, and two sisters, Heather and Alexandra. Her father was a football player and wrestler for Western Oregon University, while her mother was a swimmer for Willamette University. She is undecided on a major.
Quoting Coach Showler: "I've known Danielle since she was 11 years old. She a feisty, athletic, quick attacking back who is very single-minded and will add some quality to an area we have some good quality players in. We're bringing in immense depth and talent to what we already have."
